Some users of LSD will experience what is known as a 'bad trip'. This usually is triggered when the user feels as though they are loosing their grip on reality and, in severe cases, can be driven to a state of total panic or paranoia. In the confusion the user may cause themselves harm or death, for example by leaping from buildings or running onto busy streets, in an attempt to escape the situation.

After a bad trip, the user can sometimes what is known as a 'flashback'. Flashbacks occur after a bad trip and may take days or even weeks to oocur. They
are a spontaneous recurrence of the LSD trip and can last from a few minutes to several hours. They can be brought on by stress, alcohol, other psychotic drugs or loud music and bright flashing lights.
