During the 1960's and 70's, LSD was the preferred drug of the hippie or 'acid culture'. In the 90's it is on of a number of 'trendy' drugs used by those people
who generally hang in and around the rave and dance party scene. The average user of LSD is male or female, aged between 16 and 25 years. They generally come from middle class families and have no prior criminal record. They may choose the use LSD as a part of peer acceptance , or use it to escape reality through techno music and sophisticated lighting associated with dance parties. The energy created
by the music and lighting at dance parties will heighten and intensify the effects of LSD.

Availability of LSD tends to vary with its popularity on the street. When the drug is in fashion, it is usually easy to obtain. At other times, it can be difficult to find. Such substances as PCP are frequently passed off as LSD to the unsuspecting buyer.
